Design Spaziale Italiano is an itinerant multimedia project curated by Annalisa Dominoni and Benedetto Quaquaro and conceived and promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to highlight the strategic role of Design for Space, an avant-garde domain in our Country of which the Politecnico di Milano has been a pioneer since 2001, contributing to its development and fostering.

Design is the synthesis of creativity and innovation. It is a bridge between science, technology and beauty. Design for Space brings us into a future where we will live on other planets and deal with confined environments, reduced gravity and outer space experiences. It will change the current way we perceive comfort.

What does it mean to Design for Space and what does it imply? What are the principles that guide design to improve the quality of life and performance of astronauts?

The project consists of a series of events and exhibitions of physical products, digital content, installations and videos that develop different narratives to highlight how the form and meaning of the objects we use in our daily activities change in the transition from Earth to Space.

Annalisa Dominoni and Benedetto Quaquaro, curators of the project, are among the global leading experts in Architecture and Design for Space. They coordinate projects with space industries, design companies at the Department of Design of Politecnico di Milano, and lead the ESA_LAB@PoliMi_Design laboratory. Since 2017, they manage the first and only international Design for Space course Space4InspirACTion supported by the European Space Agency (ESA) at the School of Design of the Politecnico di Milano.
